Dialect - Atlas Of Green (Black Vinyl)

The first time I encountered Andrew PM Hunt’s project Dialect was inside the tunnels of a fort. During a live set at Philadelphia’s unconventional Making Time festival in 2023, the English artist complemented the darkness of his surroundings with humid, slippery sonics. Atlas of Green, Hunt’s new record for RVNG Intl., builds on Dialect’s signature warmness. The album imagines a fantastical—albeit plausible—near future, in which whispers of bygone technology permeate a pastoral dystopia. Where Hunt’s previous albums were sprawling and clouded, here things are more pointy and direct. It’s easy to imagine malfunctioning computer screens lingering beneath washes of tall grass while taking in these 12 soil-y compositions. - Ted Davis
